                                   FLINDERS UNIVERSITY IN ASSOCIATION WITH
                                         THE ADELAIDE COLLEGE OF DIVINITY
TO OFFER A POSTGRADUATE QUALIFICATION IN
                                                         RELIGION AND ETHICS

Flinders University will offer a new course leading to the degree of Master of Arts in Religion and Ethics commencing in 2003.  There will be exit points at Graduate Certificate and Graduate Diploma level.

In the first instance the course is designed for secondary teachers who already hold either three or four year undergraduate degrees; however, it is expected that the course will have a wider market in the general community.  Entrants who hold a four-year tertiary qualification should be able to complete the MA in one year full-time.

Recent debates in relation to genetic research, environmental degradation and corporate greed have highlighted the need for informed ethical decision making.  This course will enable participants to deepen their understanding of Christian perspectives in relation to ethical issues.

The development of the MA in Religion and Ethics is the result of a request from Dr Peter Vardy of Heythrop College, University of London, who has developed a values based program of religious education for Australian secondary schools.  The Flinders MA in Religion and Ethics is designed to provide in-service training for teachers in schools using Dr Vardy’s program.

Update, May2003
: This is to inform you that the Grad. Cert., Grad. Dip., and the M.A. in religion and Ethics have all been approved by the university and will be offered to students in face to face mode from the beginning of Semester two 2003.  It is likely that we will look at distance mode in the future.

One of the core topics: THEO 8303 Reason, Value & Religious Belief: An Introduction to the Philosophy of Religion'  will be offered at the ACD Campus, Brooklyn Park, semester 2, Wednesday evenings 5pm-8pm.
