Thinkers Guide to God and Thinkers Guide to Evil 40 % Off
The Thinker’s Guide to Evil By Peter Vardy & Julie Arliss
A comprehensive view of how we have come to see evil and where it really lies today, with extensive illustrated use of art, film and literature. In a world of violence, injustice, disease and natural disasters the problem of evil is an ever present reality. This book explores the origins of evil in both Western theology and philosophy and in Eastern traditions. It considers evil as a psychological and institutional phenomenon and explores the role of religion in resisting the temptation of evil and offering a vision of good life.
~ How did Nazism arise in Christian Germany?
~ Do we not do evil ourselves?
~ What exactly is evil?
The authors look at the way our current ideas are presented in popular film and literature, drawing on a wide range of illustrations. They confront the problem of evil in national and international affairs, in society, and in our own hearts.

Greetings...here is your July instalment of Dialogue news. Included below is a link to a fascinating report from Bruce Fairfax who is in the UK completing his Farmington Fellowship. Also included is some feedack from folk who attended the first few sessions that we have run with Jeff Knowles on teaching world religions. And please take note of the timely reminder that entries are due soon for the Spirited Art Competition. Remember digital images are accepted.
Planning continues with the Brisbane conference with the dates, title and venue confirmed below. This should be a wonderful professional development opportunity. Also you will find below a reminder to register for the Nature of God seminars which commence in July.
Behind the scenes we are currently formulating a more formal constitution for DAN which will provide us with the legal status to take Dialogue into the future. This will enable us to incorporate a company limited by guarantee which protects the Board and members, and will enable us to further explore eligibility for tax deductible donations in the future. We have enlisted the support of Deacons a well known law firm to facilitate this process. This will apparently involve a few minor structural changes for DAN in the future. We will be updating members following the Board meeting in August.
All the best for the second half of the year. Shalom Matthew
Greetings from our first Farmington Fellow
We received this message from Bruce Fairfax (Launceston Grammar) who is currently in the UK completing his Farmington Fellowship for 2006.
"I completed my term here at Oxford two weeks ago but stayed in England for an extra two weeks in order to attend the annual conference of Farmington Fellows and present an abbreviated version of the paper I presented on my work. It has been an incredibly valuable experience and I would recommend it strongly to anyone who likes thinking and researching and talking about their ideas. Go for it ! "
Feedback from Towards an Understanding of All Faiths
Seminar with Jeff Knowles
The first three seminars have been held recently in Melbourne, Auckland and Wellington. We received the following pieces of feedback;
"I thoroughly enjoyed the session. Jeff presented a lot of knowledge, but more so he engendered an enthusiasm for his subject area. The session was relaxed, varied, and well crafted. Jeff was very approachable, and modelled his teaching well. I look forward to corresponding with him about some of his ideas and teaching techniques." -Mike Meyer -St Kengigern College New Zealand
"I thoroughly enjoyed the Understanding World Religions seminar given by Jeff Knowles ..... I found the trident diagram an excellent overview of the major faith traditions and their origins. I will certainly support any other seminars which come to New Zealand. ......I can access the material on the CD and hope to do some work in the holidays to integrate it into the World Religions topic I teach to Year 12. ..."
